Jammu and Kashmir Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Jammu is a well-known voluntary, Social & Charitable Non-Governmental Organization of the State registered on 24th October, 1980 with the thrust area of uplift and empowerment of hearing and speech handicapped boys and girls of J&K State through formal and vocational education. Dr R. R Khajuria, a noted social activist of the State founded and nurtured it with his untiring efforts for many years towards establishment of the organization on sound footing. The NGO is running a School for hearing handicapped and providing absolutely free education to over 110 such specially talented students up to 12th class with some vocational training. J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra is a well known voluntary social charitable Non Governmental Organization registered on 24th October, 1980.(Under J&K Societies Registration Act, under No 604-S of 1980 ) with the thrust activity of area of uplift and empowerment of physically challenged children, particularly the hearing and speech handicapped boys and girls of the State through formal and vocational education; besides other allied social and charitable activities. An appreciable number of distinguished citizens , including retired Central and State Government Officers, with zeal for social service have been supporting the Organization through voluntary service and donations. Dr. R. R. Khajuria, a noted social activist of the State, was the Founder President of the Kendra who rendered his untiring voluntary services for many years towards establishment of the Organization on sound footing. He continues his valuable services as the Patron of the Kendra. In pursuance of the aforesaid objective, the Organization has been successfully running a free school for the deaf and dumb children since 1981. The first ever Primary School for Deaf and Dumb was inaugurated by Mohtrama Beum Sheikh Abdullah on 19-04-1981 in a small accommodation of a temple complex at Jammu. In stages, the school has been upgraded to Secondary School level since 1995-QB. Senior Secondary classes have since been started in the School from session 2012-13 in coordination with Maharaja Hari Singh Higher Secondary School Jammu under special provision by Directorate of School Education, Jammu. The institution was shifted to the present spacious premises of Evacuee Property allotted on rental basis in July 1986 from Geeta Bhawan Complex, Jammu. The Kendra has been providing free education, formal and basic vocational, to all the hearing & speech impaired students of the school. The school is named as J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra Secondary School for Hearing Handicapped . The school is centrally located in the heart of Jammu City at Shahidi Chowk, Jammu (Behind Radha Swami Satsang Bhawan). Classes for 11th class have been started from 2012-13 session with cooperation of Department of Education, J&K. Admission to 12th class for subsequent sessions has also been provided. Formal orders for up gradation of the school to Higher Secondary level are expected in due course. The school is duly recognized by the J&K State Government and affiliated with the J&K State Board of School Education , Jammu. His Excellency the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir State is the Patron-in -Chief of J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra and all the surviving past presidents render their valuable advice and help as Patrons. A select panel of Advisors to the Organization has also been empanelled after seeking their concurrence. The panel comprises prominent personalities including Shri S. S. Wazir, IPS, Retd. Addl. Director General of Police, Shri Pem Gupta, IPS Retd. IGP Police, Shri P. P. Sharma, IFS Retd. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Shri B. K. Raina, Retd. Director Geological Survey of India.
